Project Description

The UCF Student Government Association is an official governmental entity of the State of Florida, controlling over $17 million in public funds. It encompasses over 56,000 students making it the second largest governmental body in Orange County. Naturally, the Presidency of this organization is a highly coveted prize.

First and foremost, it's best to discuss the most important detail of this initiative: On March 30th, 2011, the UCF Elections Commission announced that with nearly 62% of the vote Matthew McCann and Adam Brock were victorious. This was the largest outright margin of victory in at least five election years.

The project consisted of a multitude of different and innovative initiatives, as well as some traditional components:

■  Complete Web Solution Development, highlighting UCF pride
■  Creation of all logos, artwork, and creative for the entire initiative
■  Development of a Facebook Mass Messaging system, posting messages of support at custom time intervals (C# & PHP)
■  Creation of an HTML e-mail informing community members of the election and McCann/Brock's goals
■  Providing marketing and strategic consultation on virtually every part of the process

Impact of Social Media

Impact of Social Media

The graph above reflects the overall website site traffic, by day, for the McCann Brock website. Pushes one through three represent the execution of the Mass Messaging System, which remotely updated the status of all those who opted in with a message of support.

The increase to traffic is dramatic and clear. When targeted effectively, social media works.
